Meet the JECE Music Band who started out as just reading mates

They say that without destination, one can never hope to arrive. Focus, vision and mission are actually important in everything we do in life. For without these, we have no direction

The guys in the picture are a group of singers that go by the name ‘JECE Music Band’. It is a gospel band. The name ‘JECE’ is a combination of the initials of their individual names

J = Joshua

E =Eucherius

C =Caleb

E = Eduwa

Eduwa, Eucherius, Caleb and Joshua

These guys are young, vibrant and talented. I had a one-on-one chat with them and they told me the story of how the JECE Music Band came about. I must say that it’s quite a story

The four of them were class mates in Freedom Assembly Group of School in Benin City; owned by Voice of Freedom Gospel Ministry Church. While they were in JSS 2, they formed a reading group. They called themselves ‘The JEMSNEC’. They were six in that group. So, it happened that most times when they came together to study, they ended up doing more singing than reading. As a result of this, three persons in the reading group left the group. The remaining four convinced themselves to go into music considering the fact that they had the voice and also what it takes to follow that path

 Initially, it wasn’t easy for the four to come to an agreement to actually do music, but with time, they all did.So, from the JEMSNEC reading group they became the JECE Music Band (JMB). From that moment, they started practicing together and working on their voice. While they were still in JSS2, they started working on their own track and saving their lunch money for that purpose; one of the many sacrifices they paid for their dreams. Hmm! Despite the fact that their parents were not in support ( you know parents nah, always looking out for their children; they didn't think they could handle their studies and their music and succeed in both)

They were able to complete their first song “The City is Ours” in SS2 and they released it on the 5th of January, 2014. After the release of the song, they performed at the Freedom Convention at Voice of Freedom Ministries. The song gave them recognition and they got more invites to perform in events. They also were able to get the support of their parents, family and friends. The song was used as the official sound track for the movie ‘Sea on Fire’ produced by Jeremiah Onoge.

From the different challenges they faced, they still went on to make their own songs. High five to these guys.

After “The City is Ours”, they released their second track titled ‘Alone’ ft Magnitude Truth. At this writing, they are working on their new track titled “Chosen One”and it will be released before the end of this year (hopefully though, because the date hasn't been decided yet). Also, the video of ‘The City is Ours’ will be out soon
